Getting the most out of QGis with Python

QGIS is perhaps one of the most powerful and successful Open Source Desktop GIS available today. On top of it's already impressive feature list it is very easy extend and control it using the popular scripting language Python.

This workshop is an introduction to using Python to get the most out of QGIS. Participants will be shown how they can use plugins and scripts written in Python to:

  • streamline workflows by automating repetitive tasks and reducing manual errors;
  • parse, sanitize, combine and analyze spatial and non-spatial data alike;
  • visualize spatial data in new and interesting ways.

Participants will be introduced to the Python language and the PyQGIS API by deconstructing an existing simple plugin as well as brief demonstrations of larger projects. No prior experience with the Python language is required.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have attained a good understanding of what Python and QGIS are capable of, how it applies to their daily praxis and what other resources and opportunities for further learning are available.
